EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As per academic calendar, the Cultural meet Goonj - 2009 is scheduled on 13 - 15th October 2009, and sports meet in the next semester. At present, the college is having the  “HOUSE SYSTEM” in the Cultural as well as in the Sports events. The major shortcomings observed in the present system are as follows:

1. The lack of team sprit:  As the Houses are dormant only before the function (cultural & sports). Once these functions are over, there is no existence of the houses. Hence belongingness and esprit-de-corps is not generated among the students. Further, it lacks strategic planning.

2. Lack of Faculty involvement: In the present system, none of the faculty is involved in the houses, due to which the faculty who are interested in the cultural and sports events can not participate in the management of the events.

3. Problem in finding the venue for practice: Since in the present system the houses are not related with the Departments, it is difficult for the students of various houses to find the venue for practicing the cultural events.  

PROPOSED NEW SYSTEM

Looking into the above limitations, it is proposed to make the Academic, Cultural & Sports events on the department basis. The following departmental teams are proposed:

Dean Academic will be the in-charge of the Academic events. O/c Cultural Activities and O/c Sports will be the in-charge of the Cultural and sports activities respectively under the supervision of Dean Student Welfare. Overall management of the cultural events will be managed by the cultural committee which consists of the eligible students from various departments.  Similarly, the sports events will be managed by the sports committee.

Every team will be managed by the Team Manager (Faculty) and a team coach (Staff member from the department) Teams will be lead by Team Captain (from Final Year or 3rd Year students) along with event secretary for every event (e.g. Music Secy., Dance Secy., Drama Secy. etc.). The similar procedure will be adopted for the Sports events.

It is also proposed to institute a system of awarding overall Team Championship, Best overall Boy student and Best overall Girl student, every year at the end of the academic year by awarding marks for each event/activities to include cultural, sports and academic activities. Running Trophy for team championship and College Color fir best Boy & Girl will be awarded. Marks awarded to individual participants will also be credited to the team he/she belongs. Details of the events and works to be awarded will be notified separately. Team championship and other awards will be declared during the last event of the academic year during the month of March/April.
